Iran Hates Hip-Hop Music

Friday November 30, 2007
While the U.S. government is interested in cracking down on Iran's ability to develop nuclear weapon, Iran has embarked on a different crackdown of its own -- a ban on rap music. Iran's Ministry of culture admits that there is nothing wrong with hip-hop music in itself, but maintains that the "obscene language" used by some of the artists forced them to place a ban on the music.
"In coordination with the police, illegal studios producing this type of music will be sealed and the singers in this genre will be confronted," said the official for evaluation of music at the Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry, Mohammad Dashtgoli.
Predictably, conservatives in Iran cheered the effort. But moderates have denounced the move, calling it a distraction from Iran's real problems -- a crumbling economy.

(3) Vahid says:

Idiot conservatives and clerics in Iran, worried about everything except for the truly important issues. They keep thinking they can control Iranian’s thoughts and beliefs, but the Iranian people will ALWAYS find a way to do what they want. A ban on hip-hop will only make it more attractive for young, rebellious Iranians, just as drinking has.

Shiiiii*iiit…they have rapes, murders, robberies, wars, kindapping, suicide bombers, and they are worried about obscene language…well f*ck me sideways, then we should hate commercials and movies with beautiful women…lets ban them…

henry, i also like how you put jay’s photo next to the article. there’s nobody better to represent hip hop than jay-z. he is hip hop.

@james. I was thinking the exact same thing about the Jay-Z photo. He is not only called the CEO of hip-hop, he is hip-hop. As an art form originated by underprivileged black American males, hip-hop remains rebellious, counterculture and an easy scapegoat for social ills around the globe.

(14) Feel Sorry for Ya'll says:

You people are so funny. @ARAB-PLEASE you act like you’re oh-so-cultured and knowledgeable but yet you think Iranians are Arabs. LOL You look dumb. Kila Silk, what does people rapping in Arabic have to do with anything Iranian? You are nobody so you wouldn’t be able to sign them anyway, stop actin’ like you’re J Prince out this jont. SHZA, there are no suicide bombers in Iran, sweetie. Just lots of mullahs and Islamic extremists. Stop beliving everything the American government tells you, like you like our government so much anyways. Give me a fcuking break.

Are you all brainwashed Americans? Iranians aren’t ARAB - they’re PERSIAN, BIG DIFFERENCE, get it straight or keep sounding stupid and ignorant.

Anyways, people in Iran aren’t supposed to do lots of stuff but they do it anyway. There were music bans before, this is nothing new. Iranians love to sing and rap, though and nobody can stop them from doing it if that’s what they want to do, like Vahid said. Yes, Iranian folks like hip hop, as I’m sure most other countries do. Good music is good music no matter where you play it.

It’s also cute how the title of this story is ignorantly named Iran Hates Hip-Hop Music - more and more propoganda, huh About.com? Or is the author just personally ignorant?

(15) Wont buy it says:

Hmmm… is Henry Adaso misinformed or intentionally trying to misinform us? Something’s wrong if he thinks Iran’s economy is crumbling (LMAO!)… quite the opposite, silly man. It might not be in a good state right now, but it’s growing and growing. Why not educate yourself before spilling your own ignorance into the public?
See…
presstv.com for the truth about Iran’s GROWING economy
And Henry, if that’s how you think, why not put down your pen and write something about America’s THRIVING economy?! LOL! Oh yeah, we’re in a mortgage crisis, our dollar isn’t worth a damn thing, we’re trillions of dollars in national debt and there’s rednecks in the office and the tax on gas is astronomical. What a great economy America has!
You should be ashamed of yourself.
