Video: Lupe Fiasco's "Superstar"

Tuesday November 6, 2007
Lupe Fiasco has unveiled a spankin' new video for his latest single, "Superstar." The song features singer Matthew Santos (Remember him from "American Terrorist"?), and the video was directed by the world famous -- *drumroll* -- Hype Williams! Much like Lupe's earlier music videos ("I Gotcha," "Daydream"), "Superstar" is rich in special effects. No robots or skateboards this time though. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Kinda reminds of Kanye and Adam Levine on “Heard ‘Em Say”. But these two have real good chemistry. Blazing on both American Terrorist and on this one. This video also kind of reminds of Kanye’s “Can’t tell me nothing”. Weird.

(3) Cocoa Fiasco says:

umm… i like it. but… i think it could have been so much better. I mean, the way I envisioned it when I first heard the song was him trying to push through this crowd of people who were all trying to attend some award show and he keeps gettin overlooked and at the end he gets this ephiphany and discovers a back door to go through. Sorta representin that, like, his road to fame isn’t the same as everyone elses, he’s making his own trails and wut not. but hey, thats just my daydream. n e wayz, I REALLI LOVE THAT BOI!! his music’s DOPE [okay, now i sound like a groupie] :)

The song is nuts, I also like his other single “dumb it down”, but this is one of Lupe’s best. Matthew Santos compliments Lupe very well, better combo than kanye & chris martin, I think. That being said, the video is aight, I like the concept of Lupe Dreaming it, but other than that it could of been much better. Still nuts though

The song is crazy. Everything one would expect from such a talent. The video is a good one – but just that – nothing groundbreaking or overly inovative by Hype’s standards. Can’t wait for next week Tuesday – The cool is coming!

(7) Carlos says:

One of Lupe’s best singles but still can’t top “Kick Push”.

I have yet to see in print who wrote and/or recorded the original “Superstar” this is a cover of. I know this song is from the 80’s. I knew it the minutes I heard the single.

PLEASE tell me who it is before I go crazy!

(11) Jary says:

SUPERSTAR was written by Leon Russell and Bonnie Bramlett (altho some say Delaney Bramlett was included as a writer also) in 1969 and became a major hit for THE CARPENTERS in 1971…many have sang this song from CHER, and Bette Midler to Luther Vandross, Sonic, and Ruben Stoddard…..
Leon Russell also wrote A Song For You that
Elliot Yarmin (American Idol) incorrectly identified as a song by Donny Hathaway (Hathaway sang it but Leon wrote it)….as well as many others like THE MASQUERADE….He’s been a major write/composer and musician for over 50 yrs….Check out his Jumpin Jack Flash/Youngblood medley on youtube from the Bangladesh Concert in the 70’s…and his original version of A SONG FOR YOU….

Probably gave you more info than you wanted but I am a huge Leon Russell fan….
:-)

It’s known as the Groupie Song…about a groupie in love with a super rock star…I’ve read the Rita Coolig

Thanks for the information about Matthew Santos, for the longest time I thought that the singer was Blake Lewis. I love this song, haven’t seen the video yet. Lupe Fiasco is great!
