It's Official, Nas to Release Nigger in December

Friday October 19, 2007

Nas has confirmed that his next album will indeed be named Nigger, a slight variation from the originally reported N*gga title. He told MTV News that the move was inspired by his desire to strip the N-word of its racist venom.

"We're taking power from the word," Nas said. "I wanna make the word easy on mutha----as' ears," he explained. "You see how white boys ain't mad at 'cracker' 'cause it don't have the same [sting] as 'nigger'? I want 'nigger' to have less meaning than 'cracker,'" he added.

Nas also debunked Fox News site's claim that there was no Nas album on Def Jam's schedule. "I don't know where that report came from and neither does Def Jam," said Nas.

Nas' Nigger album is due out on December 11. It will feature collaborations with DJ Toomp, Jermaine Dupri, and Salaam Remi.

Haters, start your engines.

well i’m white and i’ll still buy this album. he’s not just saying it to say it, he has a purpose behind the title, as in with “hip hop is dead”.

(2) James says:

I’m going to wait and hear some of the message and music behind the album before deciding. But it’s Nas, so odds are, I’ll be copping the album, too.

(3) Jamal says:

Salaam’s gave him some classics in the past and Toomps nice, but if Nas wud just get Premo, Just Blaze, Kanye, 9th Wonder, RZA etc., then he wud truly be makin classics, cuz the lyrics are there. Lyrically, it’s never been a problem with a Nas cd, but if he wud jus get better production he wud be a serious threat to make a classic every time

(4) james says:

i forgot to add… thank God for jay-z and nas, because with luda not releasing an album for a while and with kanye just having released an album, and with t.i. in legal trouble, we need some good rap. with jay-z and nas coming out with albums, the fourth quarter might be the best of 2007

(5) Reecie says:

It must be nice to be so blissfully ignorant. “Haters start your engines”…yeah because that’s the intellectual comeback to the legitimate criticism for Nas’ disgraceful album title. I’m a Nas supporter…but he has crossed the line and if there is even an ounce of deceny left in this country…I hope he will come to regret his decision.

Greatest to ever rock it.

Agree with jamal and Cathal.

(9) Shiban says:

don’t you kin da think nas is putting all these names up just to get attention for his albums? i mean he’s a dope mc and all, but namin the album “n****” is just too far yo, i mean i was glad he gnamed his last album “hip hop is dead” because it was actually true, well ommercial wise, but seriously, if the songs are good ima still buy it, but still he kindaoin overboard with this.

(10) Shiban says:

(11) Big Mark says:

I understand the need to get the hype and controversy up to help promote the record and I do believe Nas has a bit of intellectual material in stor e for us however, I am not thrilled with the title of the album I will buy it because I collect Nas albums but I truly hope that Nas and/or Def Jam has a change of heart and changes the title to “The N word”, “The N…”, or N*****. I don’t think that it would make difference at this point. The hype already surrounds the project. Nas, you don’t even have to tell anyone. You can just have N***** on the album cover.

what people fail to realize is that Nas is attacking all the negativity that blacks have been exploitake need to over the last three years. We need to to take action and stand up as a people instead of tearing each other down!

(22) Jamrahk says:

I play the fence in this whole marketing buffoonery. I thought a rapper like NAS was too talented to stoop to such obvious publicity stunts for shock value. There is no way to remove the controversy of the N-sult word in our day and time. Who wants to hear some rich dude’s campaign about Hip Hop politics? He should just admit that it’s a scheme and give the rapper NYOIL or even Willie Dee(…lol)the credit for bringing the controversial issue 1st.
