Jay-Z Debunks Def Jam/Columbia Rumors

Monday July 30, 2007

Rumors that Jay-Z will soon trade in his job as Def Jam prez for a new gig at Columbia Records have been swirling on the Internet for a week now. In true journalistic fashion, Hov 97 FM reached out to Jay-Z himself to find out if the streets are buzzing on the right end. Unfortunately, that interview was canceled at the last minute and rescheduled for August 3rd. Jay briefly pointed out, however, that despite all the loose talk, he's content with his current position.

Asked whether he'll still be at Def Jam by next Friday (August 3rd), Hove responded: "If they don’t kick me out the building, I will be there next week."

Radio personality Angie Martinez rephrased the question and asked if he's looking to make a big move somewhere else? "No," replied Jay. "But I'm always looking at what's the next move...I mean I like what I'm doing. I like where I'm at..."I'm not even that close. I'm nowhere near that. That's the papers, they're ahead of me."

So there you have it, kids. Jay-Z is still looking at that next move, he just hasn't locked it in yet.
