Ludacris and T.I. Win Big at the 49th Grammys

Monday February 12, 2007

"Ludacris it's your year, baby!" declared past Grammy recipient Kanye West, as Ludacris accepted his Best Rap Album Grammy for Release Therapy. More precisely, it's the year of southern rap. In addition to Luda's Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song wins, T.I. and Chamillionaire kept the dirty south flag flying high with their Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Song by a Duo/Group wins respectively.

The highlight of the night was Luda's special shoutout to Oprah Winfrey and Bill O'Reilly. Oprah reportedly edited out some of Luda's comments when he appeared on her show, which spawned the Hip-Hop vs Oprah debate that dominated headlines last May. Similarly, Fox News blarb-mouth Bill O'Reilly once criticized Ludacris on 'The O'Reilly Factor,' which forced Pepsi to drop Ludacris from their ad campaign.

As if to debunk the "destructive rap" image that his detractors often associate him with, Luda brought Mary J. Blige on stage for a splendid rendition of "Runaway Love," a "good girl gone bad" song a la 2Pac's "Brenda's Got a Baby."

We're sad to report that there were no celebrity tantrums at this year's Grammys.

Grammy voters are out of touch. “Money Maker” is best song? Ok, so it’s better than “It’s Goin Down,” but that’s damning with faint praise.

And “Release Therapy”? An album that most critics felt was clearly inferior to The Roots, Lupe, and TI. I just don’t get it… what criteria do the voters use?

This is something we can agree on. Release Therapy, in my opinion, was one of the most disappointing rap releases of 2006. “Money Maker” is possibly one of the worst rap songs I’ve ever heard in my life; from beats to rhymes and subject matter. Clearly, Grammy voters felt otherwise.

A. How was Pharrell even nominated?
B. Where the fluuuuck was Ghostface (who really should have won Best Album; I still bump that to this day with absolutely no skips)
C. If everyone loves “Runaway Love” (rightfully so, I think it’s great) more than “Money Maker”, how did the latter take “Best Song”

Yeah, so basically, f**k the Grammys. To quote Mr. Mef: “That ain’t where hip-hop lives.”

What CD said except for best album. King was better then Rlease Therapy and Food & Liquor was better then both of them (my favorite album of the year, even over my favorite rapper NaS)

Ludacris doesn’t deserve the award for best rap album at all!

Lupe made the best album of the year!

For all those out there who truly believed that Ludacris Did not deserve this award. I would like to make a few statements:

1) JUST LISTEN TO THE CD, MoneyMaker, and even Runaway Love are good songs, BUT his CD has SO many better songs

2) If You can’t stand the negative swears like Bill O’Reilly and even Oprah, just buy the Clean version, it as just as good.

3) I believe Ludacris is one of the best artist out today, Yes! better than T.I, or even Lupe because simply he is Lyrically Insane, (Just listen to the T.I diss in his cd call “War With God”, T.I never came back with a song to diss Ludacris back, because he cant. If he did, I know it wont be as good.

I believe the definition of a great rapper is how well they mix their words into their music.

Ludacris is REAL & UNIQUE, and he has been too deep in the rap game to not deserve this Award.

(10) Lamont aka Pnut says:

Ludacris is WAY better than T.I.! What does T.I. talk about but guns, drugs, money and girls? He is not nearly as creative as Ludacris. Nobody cared about T.I. when he first came out. He flopped with Im Serious. Nobody cared about T.I. until he came out with Rubberband man. Ludacris has out sold, got more hits and have WAY better rhymes then T.i.PERIOD!!!
