Grandmaster Flash Makes Hip-Hop History

Tuesday January 9, 2007

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five (Kid Creole, Cowboy, Grandmaster Flash, Melle Mel, Mr. Ness, Raheim) have been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, becoming the first hip-hop acts to achieve the feat. Grandmaster Flash, a pioneering DJ, led the way in hip-hop's developmental stages with quintessential songs like "White Lines (Don't Do It)" and "The Message." (See our Top 100 Rap Songs.)

Flash was also honored with the "I Am Hip-Hop" icon award at last year's BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is ultra-late with this recognition, but it's a welcome pat on the back nonetheless. Who else should be inducted into the Hall of Fame?
