Jay-Z Likely to Forget Lyrics at Reasonable Doubt Show

Thursday June 22, 2006
The Roots drummer and co-founder Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson disclosed to MTV that Jay-Z's Reasonable Doubt concert will pose a bigger challenge than their recent Radio City Hall concert. ?uestlove's concern is that Jay-Z will be performing many of the Reasonable Doubt songs like "22 Two's" for the first time ever:
"Unless you do [the songs] night after night, there's a chance you could forget [the lyrics]," Thompson said. "In [Jay's] case, I'm suggesting — I've seen Springsteen do it, R.E.M. do it, Bowie do it — I'm suggesting that [there] be a teleprompter. There are too many words in '22 Two's' [and] 'Regrets.'I've seen many an MC forget a song," ?uest added. "Nas forgot 'The World Is Yours' [during our recent show at Radio City]. To me, being onstage and performing your material is the equivalent to training and working out. You physically have to do that stuff over and over. I've been in jam sessions with Prince and we've started songs of his that were our life staples and he was like, 'I forgot those lyrics,' said ?uest who'll be serving as the event's music director. (Source: MTV.com)
He definitely has a legitimate complaint, but, the idea of having a teleprompter is even scarier than forgetting one's lyrics. Maybe that's why he only wants fans who're familiar with the album at the event, so he can pretend he's just letting them mouth the lyrics whenever he chokes on the words. Genius. I'm sure if Jay-Z can stop taking vacations every other day and spend some time listening to Reasonable Doubt on repeat, everything will be kosher.

Nas’ forgetting his lyrics are a little more understandable I mean he wrote Halftime when he was 16/17… I bet he remembers the words to Hate Me Now though lol..

In this case improvisation saves, just as many “Baby, I go crazy with you…” etc. The real energy is in music. Btw, for those who collect lyrics got to know worthy resource’http://az-lyrics.us/
