TI or André 3000 at current – hard to choose. TI has managed to achieve chart success without releasing crap singles, unlike Ludacris. TI hasn’t lost direction and become crap, unlike Lil Wayne. Bun B is great but hasn’t really impacted Southern Hip-Hop that much. And TI’s lyrics are fantastic and perfectly suit his rapping style, and his rapping is perfectly on beat, he is original and just look at his fantastic albums, my personal favourite being Paper Trail.
YMCMB and their imprints have left Southern Hip-Hop in a complete mess, and Lil Jon paved the way for destruction of Southern Hip-Hop with ‘Crunk’.
Scarface is great but hasn’t really been that active recently, so I’m not counting him.
However, André 3000 is fantastic; one the best lyricists of all time, secondly only to Nas, he has a fantastic flow, and in OutKast he released some of the best albums of all time with Big Boi, the best being Stankonia. However, he hasn’t released much recently.
However, I think TI is the King of The South, as André 3000 hasn’t released much apart from in OutKast, and André 3000 isn’t really Southern Hip-Hop but more to the point, he and Big Boi invented a unique kind of Hip-Hop. But in terms of Southern Hip-Hop, the throne has to go to TI. Lil Wayne, released a few good songs, but has nearly destroyed Hip-Hip from Rebirth in the course of three years, and the person who can revive Hip-Hop is Kanye West. But TI and André 3000 are keeping Southern Hip-Hop alive, despite the onslaught of YMCMB, Lil Wayne and the legacy of Lil Jon.
The King of the West Coast is Dr. Dre, the King of the Mid-West is Kanye West, the King of The East Coast is Jay-Z, the King of Lyrics is Nas, the King of Rap is Jay-Z, and the King of Hip-Hop is Eminem (in my opinion)
